King Grubb - The Greatest Man Alive (Limited Edition 12” Vinyl)

King Grubb has never lacked confidence, and on The Greatest Man Alive, he doubles down.

Produced entirely by Lee Scott, the album finds Grubb at his most outrageous, delivering absurd boasts, surreal punchlines and endlessly quotable one-liners with absolute conviction. Forget the usual rap clichés. Grubb is talking cream teas in Dartmoor, chicken nugget butties, moon rocks, HMV Imports and sugar on Frosties. Somehow, it all makes perfect sense.

Lee Scott provides a rich backdrop of production, moving between warm, soulful grooves and stranger, more off-kilter territory, giving Grubb plenty of room to do what he does best: remind everyone that he is The Greatest Man Alive.

Featuring guest appearances from Crimeapple, SonnyJim, Jehst, Lee Scott, Black Josh, Sleazy F Baby and Jubbz, the album is packed with heavyweight company, but Grubb remains unmistakably the main event.

His writing moves effortlessly between the everyday and the ridiculous. Food, weed, local landmarks and impossible scenarios collide in verses full of oddly specific references, unexpected turns and perfectly timed punchlines. Delivered with his trademark unhurried confidence, even the most outlandish claims sound like established facts.

Beneath the humour is a seriously skilled MC with complete command of rhythm, timing and language. Every listen reveals another joke, hidden reference or ridiculous detail you missed the first time around.

The Greatest Man Alive.
